“The forum was very successful for the Vologda region: we held more than 40 meetings with the heads of ministries and departments, regional governors, the management of large companies, and signed 11 agreements. The work was hard, the meetings were held non-stop, every half hour. The number of investments in the framework of the signed agreements is 9.3 billion rubles. This is an absolute record for all time of participating in the forums.”
\Particularly, the number of agreements and protocols of intent were devoted to the real economy development, industrial production. Thus, it was agreed with AFK Sistema to implement a project for CLT panels’ production in the Vologda region that will become an additional impetus for the development of wooden housing cluster in the region. The agreement with the neighboring Novgorod region was also dedicated to the creation of the first interregional cluster of wooden housing and wood processing in Russia.
At the forum site, there was signed the protocol of intent between the Vologda Region Government, the Group of Companies “Vologodskiye lesopromyshlenniki” and Cherepovets Plywood and Furniture Mill. A new project based on Plitwood includes the plywood plant construction in Vohtoga with a capacity of 120,000 cubic meters per year and the increase in the existing capacities for particleboard production to 300,000 cubic meters (growth by 25,000 cubic meters). The volume of investments is more than 4.5 billion rubles. The social effect is also significant - 250 new jobs will be created.
Two more important agreements signed at the forum relate to the food industry. By 2020 there will be implemented a unique project for the industrial salmon breeding in the Vologda region. The volume of investments is to amount to almost 1.7 billion rubles, and the annual sales volume of chilled gutted fish - about 2 thousand tons. The project is truly unique, having no analogues in Russia. Globally, there are three similar manufactures.
The company May Foods will build a modern enterprise for willowherb production in the Mezhdurechye district of the Vologda region. In “Maisky” brand there will be a special line of willowherb (ivan tea) with a production volume of 1,000 tons per year. It is planned to invest 265 million rubles in the project. This promising project will restore the national brand “Ivan Tea”. It is planned that Vologda willowherb will be supplied not only to Russian consumers, but also to many world countries.
Also at the forum the Vologda region signed the protocol of intent with one of the largest Russian retailers X5 Retail Group. The company plans to create a logistics center in the Vologda region. Project investments will amount to 1.5 billion rubles. For the region, this is a profitable project that will attract additional investment in the economy, create new jobs, increase the sales of Vologda made products to federal trade networks, and expand its supply geography. It is planned that, when the logistics center will be opened, the retail chains will increase the sales of Vologda products, concluding new contracts with local producers. The retailer management declared at the meeting with the Governor that the center could appear already in 2020.
Among the other important documents for the social and economic development of the Vologda region signed at the SPIEF, there are an agreement with Pochta Bank on the development of points of the credit organization's presence in the most remote and small settlements of the region; an agreement with Russian Post to continue joint work on the development of the post network in the Vologda region, improve the logistics network, offer the region inhabitants new types of services; an agreement with the Central Union of Consumer Societies of the Russian Federation and the Vologda Regional Union of Consumer Societies on socio-economic cooperation for 2018-2021; a memorandum of cooperation between the Vologda region Government, the State Corporation "Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs (Vnesheconombank)" and the autonomous non-profit organization "Agency for Strategic Initiatives to Promote New Projects".
“The agreements signed at the forum give a new impetus to the development of alternative industries to diversify the regional economy. This is not only our traditional industries, metallurgy and chemistry, but also wood processing, wooden housing construction, food industry and others. The successful outcome of the forum showed one more time that the Vologda region has created a favorable business climate, which gives the region a unique opportunity to attract investors. This year we forecast the investment volume of more than 125 billion rubles,” Oleg Kuvshinnikov said.
